Saúde em todo o mundo já percorreu um longo caminho desde os tempos dos cirurgiões barbeiros e parece que está passando por outra transformação no momento. Os sistemas de saúde nos Estados Unidos, Austrália e particularmente no Reino Unido estão começando a ter uma visão mais social sobre os seus serviços, o aumento do financiamento para os aspectos sociais da saúde. Mais de 1,5 milhões de pessoas trabalham no sector da assistência social no Reino Unido e como a população envelhece, os especialistas acreditam que haverá uma maior demanda por pessoas qualificadas através de uma gama de oportunidades de emprego gratificantes.

O United States Department of Labor acreditar que a população 55 anos ou mais nos Estados Unidos vai aumentar em quase 30 por cento em 2018, mais do que qualquer outro grupo etário. À medida que a geração baby boomer cresce em todo o mundo, a demanda por trabalhadores de assistência social, sem dúvida, aumentar. Nos EUA, existem atualmente mais de 642.000 trabalhadores sociais profissionais sozinho e de acordo com o Bureau of Labor Statistics, o trabalho social é um dos mais rápidos profissões em crescimento. A Associação Nacional de Trabalhadores Sociais ( NASW ), estão agora contribuindo para a sensibilização para os seus membros com as celebrações anuais, como a do mês passado "Mês Trabalho Social", que teve como objetivo mostrar os impactos profissionais assistentes sociais na América. Não é apenas uma carreira para aqueles que no EUA, a Associação Australiana dos Assistentes Sociais ( AASW ) está crescendo rapidamente também com mais de 6.700 membros em todo o país. É o Reino Unido, que parecem estar na vanguarda do desenvolvimento social de saúde embora. A sombra ministro da Saúde, Liz Kendall descreveu os serviços prestados pelos assistentes sociais em todo o país como uma "tábua de salvação" para a população. O trabalho social, em qualquer país, pode ser uma carreira extremamente gratificante, ajudando os outros a superar a pobreza, a desigualdade, insegurança, medo, violência, trauma, perda e dor.

Estudar um grau, como Saúde e Assistência Social pode ajudá-lo a melhorar suas perspectivas no setor de assistência social. Graus muitas vezes combinam diversos elementos de biologia, sociologia, nutrição, direito e ética e pode ser extremamente gratificante. Talvez por isso tantas instituições no Reino Unido estão atualmente oferecendo cursos em todos os níveis que fornecem uma plataforma para a arena da assistência social. º Nível Fundamental no atendimento social, como o Grau Fundação de Trabalho com Crianças, Jovens e Famílias oferecidos pela Sheffield Hallam, estão se tornando cada vez mais popular como um caminho para uma carreira na área da saúde e social, especialmente para pessoas com qualificações suficientes para ganhar a entrada para o curso de graduação. Mais pessoas estão optando por estudar a obra social a nível de licenciatura, pois há mais opções para diversificar e especializar-se do que nunca. Muitas instituições ainda oferecem graus mais amplos, como a BA (Hons) Saúde e Social oferecido na Universidade de Derby. Alguns estudantes estão optando por prosseguir os seus estudos no campo social, estudando para pós-graduação, tais como a Saúde e Social Mestrado oferecidos em Glasgow Caledonian University.

Carreiras no âmbito do sector social terno muitos, pois muitas vezes oferecem um grande nível de flexibilidade, permitindo que você ajuste o trabalho em torno de outros compromissos. Como muitas posições estão fora dos típicos nove a cinco horas, muitos estudantes trabalham na indústria, enquanto estudava.

The Social Side of Healthcare – Studying Social Care Abroad

As new government initiatives give social care a higher profile than ever, we look at the future within the industry for prospective students.

Healthcare across the world has come a long way since the times of the barber surgeons and it seems it is undergoing another transformation at the moment. Health systems in America, Australia and particularly the UK are beginning to take a more social view on their services, increasing funding for the social aspects of healthcare. Over 1.5 million people work in the social care sector in the UK and as populations age, experts believe there will be an increased demand for qualified individuals across a range of rewarding employment opportunities.

The United States Department of Labor believe that the 55 and older population in America will increase by almost 30 percent by 2018, more than any other age group. As the baby boomer generation grows older across the globe, the demand for social care workers will undoubtedly increase.In the USA, there are currently over 642,000 professional social workers alone and according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, social work is one of the fastest growing professions. It’s not just a career for those in the USA though, the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) is growing quickly too with more than 6,700 members across the country. It is the UK who seem to be at the forefront of social healthcare development though. The shadow health minister Liz Kendall has described the services provided by the social workers around the country as a “lifeline” for the population. Social work, in any country, can be a hugely rewarding career, helping others overcome poverty, inequality, insecurity, fear, violence, trauma, loss and pain.

Studying a degree such as Health and Social Care could help you enhance your prospects in the social care sector. Degrees often combine various elements of biology, sociology, nutrition, law, and ethics and can be extremely rewarding. This is perhaps why so many institutions in the UK are currently offering courses at all levels providing a platform into the social care arena. Foundation level degrees in social care such as the Foundation Degree Working with Children, Young People and Familiesoffered by Sheffield Hallam, are becoming increasingly popular as a way into a career in health and social care, especially for people with insufficient qualifications to gain entry to the degree course. More people are choosing to study social work at degree level as there are more options to diversify and specialise than ever before. Many institutions still provide broader degrees such as the BA (Hons)Health and Social Care offered at the University of Derby. Some students are choosing to further their studies within the social field by studying for postgraduate degrees such as the MSc Health and Social Care offered at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Careers within the social sector suit many as they often offer a great level of flexibility, allowing you to fit work around other commitments. As many positions are outside of typical nine to five hours, many students work in the industry whilst studying.
