According to the report Imazon, the rate of
deforestation in the Legal Amazon
- Area that encompasses nine states belonging to the
Amazon basin - in June
was more than double that recorded between January
and May 2014.
Only last month, the institute has identified through
satellite, 843 km ² of
deforestation, against about 400 km ² in the first five
months of the year.
Compared to June 2013 (when they were cleared 184 km ²), the
deforestation rate has risen 358%.
As the balance of the month made by Imazon, 59% of
the deforestation occurred
in private areas; 27% in protected areas; 13% in settlements
agrarian reform; and 1% in indigenous territory.
But there is a caveat in this study. In June, the index
was clouds
30% of the forest area, considered high percentage.
According Imazon,
for this reason, "the data from deforestation and forest
degradation in June
2014 may be underestimated. "
Among the states that comprise the Legal Amazon, Pará
was the most deforested
(54%), followed by Amazon (16%), Rondônia (15%),
Mato Grosso (14%) and Acre (1%).
The most affected municipalities were Altamira Pará
and Itaituba.
In the item "forest degradation", Pará is also a leader,
responsible for
Destroyed 44% of degraded areas, followed by
Rondônia (40%), Mato Grosso
(13%) and Amazon (2%).

Desmatamento na Amazônia
aumenta 358% em um ano
Somente em junho deste ano, o índice de desmatamento na região foi o dobro do
registrado entre janeiro e maio
Segundo o relatório do Imazon, o índice de desmatamento da Amazônia Legal
– área que engloba nove estados pertencentes à Bacia Amazônica – no mês de junho
foi mais que o dobro do registrado entre janeiro e maio de 2014.
Só no mês passado, o instituto identificou, por meio de satélites, 843 km² de
desmatamento, contra cerca de 400 km², nos primeiros cinco meses do ano.
Na comparação com junho de 2013, (quando foram desmatados 184 km²), a
taxa de desflorestamento subiu 358%.
Conforme o balanço do mês feito pelo Imazon, 59% dos desmatamentos ocorreram
em áreas privadas; 27% em unidades de conservação; 13% em assentamentos de
reforma agrária; e 1% em território indígena.
Há, porém, uma ressalva nesse estudo. No mês de junho, o índice de nuvens estava
em 30% sobre o território florestal, percentual considerado alto. Segundo o Imazon,
por este motivo, “os dados de desmatamento e degradação florestal em junho
de 2014 podem estar subestimados”.
Dentre os estados que compõem a Amazônia Legal, o Pará foi o mais desmatado
(54%), seguido por Amazonas (16%), Rondônia (15%), Mato Grosso (14%) e Acre (1%).
Os municípios paraenses mais afetados foram Altamira e Itaituba.
No quesito “degradação florestal”, o Pará também é líder, respondendo por
44% das áreas destruídas degradado, seguido por Rondônia (40%), Mato Grosso
(13%) e Amazonas (2%).
